Question
Equipment Start Stop 0 O O O Equal Mass Bar Digital Timer Photogates Launch Cart with plunger 2nd Cart Track A B C D E In this lab, data is recorded by photogates instead of the motion detectors. For each photogate, there is an IR beam that is constantly shining to the other side of the photogate, which detects the beam. When an object passes through the photogate, the beam is broken and the time is recorded. When the beam is detected again, the time is detected. The cart has a peg that will cross the path of the photogate, interrupting the signal, and giving two time measurements. The data is displayed in an Excel spreadsheet format (see below). GateStatel indicates data recorded for the first photogate the cart initially passes (on the left), and GateState2 refers to the second (on the right). A "1" indicates when the beam is broken, in other words the peg first blocks the bean. “0" indicates when the beam is detected again (i.e. when the peg on the cart no longer blocks the beam). The sample data shows a cart that passes through the first and second photogates, bounces off the wall at the end of the track, and passes back through both photogates.Explanation / Answer
Time (1.0) - Direction - Right , cart is still on left, left of gate1, moving to the right.
Time (1.25) - Direction - Right , passed the left gate and moving to the right
Time (1.6) - Direction - left, cart bounce the wall and crossed the gate to second time and moving to the left
2. time taken from gate-1 to gate2 = 1.343536 - 1.200125 = 0.143411 s
cart velocity = 8/0.143411 = 55.78 cm/s
3. As the cart bounces back it passes gate2 at 1.491249s
passes gate1 at 1.633995s
time diff = 0.542746s ;
vel = 8/0.542746 = 14.74 cm/s
4. They are not same beacuse , after collsion the cart will loose some energy and the velocity is less.
The hightlight inidicate when exactly the cart is passing the gate.
T Pos Direction 1.0 A, gate 1 is 0=> it has not detected any object, A is to theleft gate-1 Right 1.25 C, gate1 has become 1 at 1.2s => the cart has pssed G-1 at 1.2s and it has not at passed G-2 which is at 1.34 s Right 1.6 C, The cart has bounced from the wall and passed G-2 at 1.49s on it way back but not yet detected by G-1 which is at 1.63s LeftRelated Questions
