Hypothesize what you think will happen when you open it and why? What is changing inside the bottle? Whatill happen when you open the bottle, and why? Explain using PV-DRI 1. 2. Then fil an empty plastic bottle of the same size with hot water, shake it, pour out the water and then quickly cap it. Wait for one minute. What did you observe? Explain using PV DRT 4. To work through your hypothesis, identify which of the components of the Ideal Gas Law increased, decreased, or stayed the same during the one minute after capping the bottle Pressure inside the bottle Pressure outside the bottle Temperature inside the bottle Temperature outside the bottle Number of moles of air and water vapor inside the bottle Volume of the bottle

Explanation / Answer

1. When a soda bottle is shaken for 30 seconds then external work is done on the bottle which increases the pressure inside the bottle as the molecules of co2 gas in the soda starts to collide with walls of bottle.
since the volume of the bottle remains the same so
PV=nRT
T=PV/nR
therefore the temprature also increases.

2. When water is poured in the bottle the temprature inside the bottle increases and as soon as the water is poured out it starts to decrease but the pressure will be constatnt at all times which is the atmospheric pressure
as PV=nRT
V decreases.

number of moles of water vapour will increase due to condensation
