You start to wonder, is this company service (an actor impersonating relatives, spouses, coworkers or anyone you desire) an example a “right v. right” type of dilemma as described Required Reading and Multimedia Badaracco (2002)? Why or why not? Explain (this is for answeing sheeet). Badaracco, J.L., Jr. (2002). Defining moments: A framework for moral decisions. Faculty Seminar Series. Harvard Business School. This is the original question : What do you think of the company Family Romance (see below)? Do you think that the CEO, Ishii Yuichi, is a genius (e.g., maximizing value to shareholders) or has he done anything wrong? the article How to Hire Fake Friends and Family. he said from the article “How to Hire Fake Friends and Family” “I sat down recently with [CEO] Yuichi in a café on the outskirts of Tokyo, to discuss his business and what it means to be, in the words of his company motto, “more than real. […] Morin: What makes your company different from competitors? Yuichi: We have a huge variation of employees and the dedication to create an experience that surpasses reality. That’s why our motto is “more than real.” We had a case recently where a dying man wanted to see his grandchild, but it would not have been born in time. His daughter was able to rent an infant for the day. Morin: What does it mean to be “more than real”? Yuichi: There are less concerns. There is less misunderstanding and conflict. Our clients can expect better results. Morin: You’re offering a more perfect form of reality? Yuichi: More ideal. More clean. Morin: Are there any requests that you’ve rejected? Yuichi: Unless it’s a crime, we will accept any request. Some people with anorexia, for example, want to see people who are willing to eat in front of them. They just find relief in watching a person who eats a lot. We will even do that. Morin: What does the word “real” mean to you? Yuichi: I believe the term “real” is misguided. Take Facebook, for example. Is that real? Even if the people in the pictures haven’t been paid, everything is curated to such an extent that it hardly matters.” (Morin, 2017)

Explanation / Answer
In my opinion the company Family Romance is not really a prime example of right vs right dilemma faced so often by corporate management in the current business scenario, especially as described by Joseph L Badaracco Jr. in his book Defining Moments: When managers must choose between right and right. Badaracco refers to a scenario wherein the decision involved is in conflict with the moral values and beliefs of the person, forces a choice between prime responsibilities which may be personal or social. These decisions are not normal right and wrong like cheating. Yuichi has setup a company the very basis of which is to fulfill the unrealistic desires or dreams of people even if it entails falsifying truths. This is an idea of making life unreal, more real than real, the name says it all Romance means remoteness from everyday life or reality also in this case. He believed this to be right when he setup the company, it was a one time decision, that if an unreal situation provides even momentary happiness to an individual or satisfaction in life even through a false belief it is worth it. I agree with Yuichi this is only absolutely right, where is the conflict? There is no party who may be disadvantaged by the act he clearly states they do not commit crime. Life is too short anyone is spreading happiness we need more of it more of Family Romance. Brilliant concept.
