Question

What is wrong with the following graph? Last week, we asked whether A levels are becoming harder to pass. You said: Yes 50% No 49% A pie chart is not an appropriate graph for this type of data. It should be a time series plot instead. The answers of yes and no do not apply to the question being asked. A pie chart is not an appropriate graph for this type of data. It should be a scatterplot instead. The pie chart depicts redundant information, rather than just showing what is needed O The areas do not add up to 100% and are not proportioned correctly.

Explanation / Answer

From pie chart, we can see that the area showing for 49 percent is much more greater than that of 50 percent. So it is not proportioned property.

Also on adding 50 and 49 we get 99 percent.

Basic definition of the pie chart is that the percentage of all the area must be 100 percent.

So, that is also incorrect.

Thus FIFTH OPTION is correct that the areas do not add up to 100 percent and are not proportioned correctly.
