Compare the population median to the mean of the sample medians. Choose the correct answer below A. The population median is not equal to the mean of the sample medians (it is also not halt or double the mean of the sample medians). B. The population median is equal to the mean of the sample medians The popuiation median is equal to half of the mean of the sample medians D. The population median is equal to double the mean of the sample medians c. Do the sample medians target the value of the popuiaion median? in general, do sample medians make good estimators of populaton medians? Why or why not? O A. The sample medians target the population median, so sample medians make good estimators of population medians XB. The sample medians target the population median, s0 sample medians do not make good estimators of population medans CThe sample medians do not target the D. The sample medians do not target the population median, so sample medans make good estimators of population medians median, so sample medians do not make good estimators of

Explanation / Answer

Ans:

a)The median is the number in the middle of a set of numbers.

There is one sample 4,4 that has median 4 ,So prob. will be 1/9 and there are 2 samples 5,4 & 4,5 having median 4.5,hence prob. 2/9 and so on.

b)Median of population i.e. of 4,5,9 is equal to 5

Median of sample median is 5.75

Hence,both are not equal.

So,option A is correct.

c)

In general, the sample median is the best estimate of the population median, provided that the sample is a simple random sample from the population.Things get more complex if the sample is stratified, clustered, etc.

And if it isn't a random sample at all ... well, then the sample median may be very biased.
