Explanation / Answer

We consider the paper titled: "Carbohydrates for training and competition" by Louise M. Burke , John A. Hawley , Stephen H. S. Wong & Asker E. Jeukendrup. It is published in the journal "Journal of Sports Sciences".

The purpose of the paper is to check the carbohydrate availability for the atheletes. Here, the carbohydate intake is judged by the totaal daily intake and the timing of the consumption vis-a-vis the exercise to maintain adequate carbohydrate substrate for the muscle and central nervous system. If the carbohydrate availability is increased by its consumption hours prior to the session, it helps in excercise and refueling between sessions. From the summary of Figure 1 on the third page of the paper, it can be concluded that when the carbohydrate intake is inadequate exercise maintain adequate carbohydrate substrate for the muscle and central nervous system < 1.2 g.kg-1. h-1, the addition of protein about 20g enhances gyclogen synthesis. This average summary is the consolidation of the works of numerous papers.
