Explanation / Answer

a) A survey may focus on opinions or factual information depending upon the purpose of the study. Surveys may involve answering a questionnaire or being interviewed by a researcher.

According to some random Sample Survey, Students of 3 institutions were surveyed for their behavior towards recycling. The survey was made available to all students at the three institutions for a period of 4 weeks with multiple participation reminders. At the conclusion of the four weeks, the data were tabulated and evaluated to address the principal question of what are the attitudes and behaviors of college students relative to recycling as well as to make comparisons between institutions and categories within the institutions.

b)an experimental study has the researcher purposely attempting to influence the results. The goal is to determine what effect a particular treatment has on the outcome. Researchers take measurements or surveys of the sample population.

An experimental study of some behaviors of college student procrastinators was done on 200 students. It was found that procrastination was positively correlated with extraversion and curvilinearly related to neuroticism. Forty procrastinators and nonprocrastinators were further tested. Procrastinators showed a significant tendency to underestimate the time needed to complete a reading task. They also showed a preference for beginning a task by performing the simpler portions first. And for non procastinators, results were almost opposite.
