Only hard-copy solutions are accepted Problem 1 Due to the construction of several mega apartment complexes just south of a city campus, a developer is considering the construction of a new movie theater complex, "MegaMovies", on the east side of Gainesville. The developer has hired you to help determine the viability of building this theater complex. From a trip generation model, you have already determined that 150 vehicle (assume auto-only) trips to the movies will be made from this housing area on a typical weekend evening, based on socio-economic characteristics. Logit model variable coefficient values are given in Table I. The movie theater characteristics are given in Table 2. From the destination choice logit model developed, determine how many trips from this housing area will be attracted by each of the two existing major movie theaters and the proposed theater? (Hint: use the concept of utility functions) Table 1 Variable Constant Travel Time (min) Available parking (in hundreds of spaces) Movie ticket price ($) Number of screens Coeff 0.10 0.20 0.40 -0.25 Table 2 Movie Theater Variable Travel time (min) Available parking (spaces) Movie ticket price ($) Number of screens Mega Movies gal CinemasKoyal Park 550 8.50 17 15 500 6.50 14 20 450 7.50 16

Explanation / Answer

From table we , The regression model is as

Y(no. of trips) = 0.1 - 0.2*X1(Travel time) + 0.4*X2(Available parking) - 0.25*X3(Movie ticket price) + 0.3*X4(No. of screens)

From table no 2 we compute Number of tripes for 3 types of movie theaters as

1) For Mega movies

Y(no of tripes) = 0.1 - 0.2*15 + 0.4*550 - 0.25*8.5 + 0.3*17 = 220.075

2) For Regal cinemas

Y(no. of tripes)= 0.1 - 0.2*15 + 0.4*500 - 0.25*6.5 + 0.3*14 = 199.675

3) For Royal Park

  Y(no. of tripes)= 0.1 - 0.2*20 + 0.4*450 - 0.25*7.5 + 0.3*16 = 179. 025

We see that Y response value is greater for Mega movies theater. So we conclude that 220 trips for Mega theater.
