Question

A principle investigator is interested in the effects of ambient light in lab on the productivity of his graduate students. Each day before the students arrive to run experiments In lab, he adjusts the brightness of the lights. At the end of the day, he checks in with each student to see how much s/he accomplished that day. The table below contains his raw data (lumens) 50 100 150 200 250 (average # experiments completed 1.29 1.95 2.26 3.01 4.63 646 6.62 300 350 400 7.09 8.14 45010.85 500 4. What type analysis should be used to evaluate this data set? a. Two-factor ANOVA d. One-way ANOVA b. One Sample t Test e. Correlation c. Regression 5. What are the correct null and alternative hypotheses for this analysis? a, H, r o, Ha r#0 . Select the correct output for the analysis. R-Sq = 95.8%, p

Explanation / Answer

4)Here both the variables are continuous and we want to see if the light will effect the productivity or not.As they are continuous,so ANOVA will not work here,Also,They may not be linearly related. So correlation may not work. And t test is used to check diffrence among two groups. So,here t test will not work. So,the working thing here will be regression.

5)As this this is a regression problem so we will want to check if the regression is significant or not.Hence, (d) will be correct option. (c) will not, because under null hypothesis H0:b not equal to 0,we wil be unable to derive the distribution of test statistics.

6)By analysis, you can see that option (a) will be correct.
