Question

In the past it was known that the proportion of the US population who supported vaccinations was 78.5%. Recently a random survey of 2001 individuals was taken. In that survey only 76.2% said they supported vaccinations. Using the output below, is there evidence to suggest that support has now dropped (dropped below 78.5%)? Standard Between Hypothesis test results: Outcomes in SupportVac Success: Yes p: Proportion of successes Ho : p = 0.785 HA p 78.5, the p-value is less than 5%, there is no evidence to suggest a drop in support. 76.2 against HA:pc 76.2, the p-value is greater than 5%, there is no evidence to suggest a drop in support. 78.5 against HA:p

Explanation / Answer

Solution

1) H0 : p>=78.5 against Ha : p<78.5 , the p value is less than 5% , thus there is evidene to suggest there has been a drop in support.

2) The true p value is calculated using the binomial distribution, whereas the p value given in the starrtcrunch output is based on the normaldistribution, which is an approximation of the true p - value
