As HIM director of Pine Valley Community Hospital, a ctitical access hopstial, you are concerend about a recent decision made by your CEO. He has decided that all patients will be issued an Advance Beneficiary Notice for outpatient laboratpry and radiology services. His rationaliztion is that by doing this, the hospital will be able to collect on all tests performed that do not meet medical neccsity. You know that is an unacceptable practice.

Explanation / Answer
In this specific situation I would definitely not apply this type of a structure for performing test on the patient without any necessity. This is definitely against the ethics and code of conduct of the organisation which is illegal as well as unethical. By purposely forcing patients to do the specific services is unethical and does not comply with the standards of any Healthcare facility.
According to the code of ethics, it is unethical to take any kind of malpractice regarding providing false treatment to the patient and to generate extensive revenue from the same service provision. If in the situation I would follow the instructions then it would be totally unethical for the organisation as well as organisation would be in risk for being audited and evaluated for the specific wondering if any of the patient register a complaint against the organisation. This should not be done by any means and should not be supported by any of the employees at the organisations as per the ethics and code of conduct Deny for such practice.
