Aquatic fungi called hyphomycetes play important roles in decomposing plant mate

Question

Aquatic fungi called hyphomycetes play important roles in decomposing plant material such as leaves in streams and lakes. In many environments, these fungi are the most important decomposers. Some researchers were interested to see how urban pollution influenced the decomposition rate of these fungi so they selected two relatively polluted sites L1 and L6 on a river in Portugal and an unpolluted site (L7) on the same river. At each site they submerged 6 bags of leaf litter and allowed them to decompose for a month. They then estimated the amount of fungi present by measuring the amount of ergosterol (the sterol in the cell membranes of fungi instead of cholesterol) and used a conversion factor to convert that into mg of fungal biomass per g of the leaf sample. From these data they calculated a decomposition rate for each bag at each site. Then they compared the average decomposition rates at these sites.

The best choice for the analysis of these data would be?

A. Kruskal-Wallis test

B. Sign test

C. 2 test of association

D. Wilcoxon signed-ranks test

E. Correlation analysis (Pearson correlation)

F. Two-way analysis of variance with interactions (factorial design)

G. Paired t-test

H. The Anderson-Darling test

I. binomial test (proportions test)

J. Two-way analysis of variance without interactions (repeated measures ANOVA)

K. The Bartlett test

L. One-way analysis of variance

M. 2 goodness-of-fit test

N. Mann-Whitney test

O. Correlation analysis (Spearman rank correlation)

P. 2 sample t-test

Q. Two-way analysis of variance without interactions (randomized block design)

R. Linear regression

Explanation / Answer

we can analyse the whole scenario using a one way anova

we are having decomposition rates for 6 bags each at 3 different locations

here 3 different locations L1 , L6 and L7 are the independent variable or factors

and decomposition rate is the dependent variable

so we can measure using 1 way anova whether the decompostion rate is different along the 3 sites are not
