Question

Question 1)

Previous studies suggest that vegetarians may not receive enough zinc in their diets. As the zinc requirement is particularly important during pregnancy, researchers conducted a study to determine whether vegetarian pregnant women are at greater risk from low zinc levels than are nonvegetarian pregnant women.

22 women were monitored. The following table presents the zinc levels (ug/g) in the hair of three groups of women. (Data from J. C. King. Nutrition 34 (1981): 1049-1055.)

Should you reject the null hypothesis?

Question 2)

The Cougar Swim Club acquired some Speedo Fastskin bodysuits and decided to test them out. A number of the club's fastest swimmers performed a 50m freestyle swim in a regular spandex bodysuit and in a Speedo Fastskin suit. The table below summarizes their times in seconds (s).

Explanation / Answer

Ans:

1)

As,p-value<0.05,We reject null hypothesis.

2)

t statistic = (-1.9625 - 0) / (2.5065 / sqrt 8) = 2.215

df = 7

Critical value of t = (use alpha = 0.05) = 2.365

As t-statistic < critical t ,Wet null fail to reject null hypothesis.
