Question

We have a final coming up and on the study sheet there is a problem that says:

Find LEFT(n), RIGHT (n), TRAP (n), MID(n), SIMP(n) and find exact value. Compute the error for each one. How do these erros change as n doubles?

I only have trouble with the last part asking how do the errors change as n doubles. Is there a kind of formula for this? For example I know there is a question in our book where n = 3 then n = 30 and comments say the error is only divided by 10 for LEFT and RIGHT but for TRAP and MID it's by 100 and for SIMP it's 10,000. I can make the connection for L and R because 30 is ten times the amount of 3 but I am confused for the others. This would help since this was on a prior test...

The approximation to a definite integral using n = 10 is 2.346; the exact value is 4.0. If the approxiamtion was found using each of the following rules, use the same rule to estimate the integral with n = 50. It goes on to list

a) LEFT

b) TRAP

c) SIMP

Also an explanation on TRAP MID and SIMP.
