Question

In this experiment, you will construct the circuit shown in Figure 1 below, using a 10kW resistor for , a various resistors for R, , and ela |sv The function generator will be set to provide a sine wave for input Variable Resistor Ri 15V 4741 -15V Figure 1: Test Circuit for the Inverting Amplifier Based on the circuit shown, answer the following questions. i. What value should be used for to provide a gain of 4? 2. Assuming that there is no addition circuitry connected to the terminal, what is the output (or input) current of the op amp at when -2V? (Hint: the output current will flow through, R, but the amount of current will not depend upon ,only Vs and.) . If is a 2.5V peak-to-peak sine wave, calculate the maximum feedback resistor value that can be used to keep the op amp within its linear range, (e.) Vout has the capacity of 30Vpp 4. If = 40kW. calculate the maximum peak-to-peak input voltage for that can be used to keep the op amp within its linear range, aaVot has the capacity of 30V

Explanation / Answer

Given an inverting operational amplifer.

1) For an inverting op-amp the gain is given as Av=Vo / Vs = -Rf / Rs

  Here Av  should be 4.So

Then Rf =(Av)(Rs)

=(4)(10 k Ohm)

=40 k Ohm

2) I=Vs /  Rs

= 2 /10

=0.2 mA at Vo if the input voltage is 2 V

3) Given Vs= 2.5 Vp-p and Vo=30 Vp-p ;

Rs =10 K Ohm

Therefore (Rf )max =(Vo / Vs )(Rs)

=(30/2.5)(10)

=120 K Ohm

4)

Given Vo=30 Vp-p ; Rs =10 K Ohm;Rf=40 K Ohm

Therefore (Vs)max =(R s /Rf )(Vo)

=(10/40)(30)

=7.5 Vp-p
