Question
Need some help understanding control systems. We ran a program and the below plots are what I got for speed when I put the measured speed through the transfer function (Low Pass Filter) of 1/ Tau*s +1 where Tau ranges from 0.1, 0.02, 0.004. Here are the concepts I need to understand for these graphs.
-Discuss the effects of the time constant on the level of noise cancelation and speed of response (you may have to zoom in to see the impact).
-Which time constant is the best choice for the purpose of control? (your answer should discuss bothresponse lag/delay caused by the filter and the level of noise attenuation).
4500 T:0.1 7 0.02 =0.004 4000 3500 3000 2500 2000 1500 1000 500 o L 0 3 Time 2 4 5 6Explanation / Answer
1. As from the given curve we can see 3 time constants
T1 =0.1
T2=0.02
T3=0.04
T3<T2<T1
And from the given curve effect of noise is more in Curve with T1 more time constant
Hence , we can see that with increase in Time Constamt Noise cancellation decreases and Effect of noise on signal increases.
2)
Time Constant T2 is best for control
As with very less time constant frequency goes very high resulting in Attenuation.
With time constant very less system response become slow hence noise disturbs signal
Hence , Time constant in between them is better.
