Question

b) Give your recommendations about the process. (Marks 3) [Marks 10] Question No.3 A manufacturing unit produces cooking oil. The oil production is normally distributed with the mearn weight of each packet 450 gm and standard deviation 5 gm. Manufacturer wants to check whether the average weight of oil packet is different from 450 gm. Sample average is 445gm and sample size 25, Level of significance(=0.05) How do you help producer to check method the average weight of packet by using critical region a) #3 PE/ CA2-a

Explanation / Answer

Q3.

Please find the explanation below, write back to me in case you don't understand any part of it:

We have been given params of the normal distribution as follows:
Mean = 450 grams
Stdev = 5 grams

We will build the hypothesis test as following:
Ho: Mu = 450 grams
Ha: Mu != 450 grams

Smaple size, n = 25
Sample mean = 445 grams

Z statistic = Sample Mean - Pop.Mean / (Stdev/sqrt(n)) = (445-450)/(5/sqrt(25)) = -5

Now, a Z-statistic of -5 means a p-value of almost 0, which is less than .05.

This means that this sample mean lies within the critical region, and hence we have to reject the null hypothesis and conclude that the Average weight of oil packet is different from 450 grams
