Question
A particular professor has noticed that the number of people, P, who complain about his attitude is dependent on the number of cups of coffee, n, he drinks. From eight days of tracking he compiled the following data: People (P) Cups of coffee (n) 1 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 5 Unless otherwise stated, you can round values to two decimal places a) Using regression to find a linear equation for P(n) P(n) b) Interpret the meaning of the slope of your formula in the context of the problem Preview c) Interpret the meaning of the P intercept in the context of the problemExplanation / Answer
a) P= -1.4444*n + 13.083
b) For every 1 unit change in the number of coffees taken 1.44 less number of people complain on the professor keeping every other parameter constant
c) Intercept =13
This means that if the professor does not take any coffee 13 people will complain
ie if n=0 P=13
d) if n=10
P=-1.4444*10+13.083 =-1.36
Since number of people cannot be negative hence we can say no one will complain or P=0
e) Since number of people cannot be negative hence we can say no one will complain or P=0
f)At n=9 we get P=0.0834
There is a minute chance that someone might complain
Hence at n=10 we get a negative P so we can be certain that no one will complain
