Explanation / Answer

The ?2-test-of-independence

The Chi-Square test of independence is used to determine if there is a significant relationship between two nominal (categorical) variables. The frequency of each category for one nominal variable is compared across the categories of the second nominal variable.

Since we have two categorical variables here  older people share a home with their grown children and  Religion in which raised. we are interested  in whether or not respondents' opinion about grown children living with their parents is independent of the religion in which the respondent was raised.
