State which research design you would recommend for each of the following decision problems, and explain your recommendation clearly in 1-2 sentences maximum. Choose between exploratory research, descriptive research, or causal research for each recommendation.

a. The city’s Tourism Board wants to know if they should increase ticket prices to the museum. They believe that an increase of $5 will not result in a loss of attendance, and would like to see if they are right.

b. The State Parks Commission wants to know whether they should build a small hotel near a popular park. To make this decision they need to know what percentage of park visitors would consider staying overnight at least one night when visiting the park.

c. LEGO management has the suspicion that their newest play set is more popular with boys than with girls, and wants to try to figure out why girls appear not to like this play set too much. This will help them determine if they should come out with a new set aimed at the girls’ market.

Explanation / Answer

a)

This is a Causal research study where board want to see the effect of fare hike on attandence. This is also called the cause and effect study where the research test the effect of some cause.

b)

This is a descriptive research study because the commision are interested in some descriptive statistic about how many visitors may stay overnight atleast one night

c)

This is the exploratory research study because the management team has suspicion that their new play will not be popular within girls and they donot know the reason for this. So the study is about to explore the girls' behaviour
