1.
No, it is not the case of invasion of privacy.
Employers use social media account of individuals to identify and ascertain the suitability of the candidates for the job profile in terms of skill sets, recommendations received by the candidates, genuine nature of the candidature of the person and the type of network the candidate is associated with. It helps the employers as well as the potential employees as they get the right match for their abilities. Besides, the detailed access to the profiles are only done after the consent of the candidates and it is used as a mean to verify the claims made the candidates. Without consent, the employers can only access the generic details made available by the social network to everyone including the employers.
2.
Individuals share the information on a social network that is only visible to their own friends’ network or those who get the content using the news feed. The post or status update is done with intention to spread the message and it is taken as rational behavior for the social media administrators and the message is spread to all the friends and to the friends of the friends. Though these massages will not be shown to the people outside of the network. So, a particular level of veil is present in the social media. Besides, there is a provision to use one to one communication as it is the case with direct and private tweets made by the individuals on their twitter account.
Regarding, the FB, all information are visible as they are shared, but only to the individuals who are the members. So, there is a protection of the data available on FB. For example, people cannot access the account of anybody unless they become friends. Otherwise basic information is available , rather all the information.
3.
My personal opinion is that social media and network is meant for the sharing, comments and updates with the people in the network. For privacy of information there should be a use of features such as close and private group where the members can access it. Further, social media reflects the characteristics of the individuals in terms of the network, nature of posts and activities that help the employers to recruit the right candidates. So, it should not be treated as invasion of privacy, rather it should be considered as the technological inclusion to identify the right candidate for the right profile.
