Explanation / Answer

1) What role did the late Steve Jobs play in leading and managing innovation at Apple?

Steve Jobs was a visionary, a leader and a motivator who imagined about technologies which were not so possible at that time and made it a reality. It was the vision of Jobs which made Apple Inc. as one of the most loved, known and successful companies in the world, having no knowledge of computer coding Jobs with just his ideas made Apple what it is today.

Steve Jobs was a leader who used to lead from the front, he has no knowledge of computer coding but he could imagine things and ask people working at Apple that is it possible? if yes how much time will it take? Apple became what it is today just because of the ideas and innovation it brought to the world, starting from computers to iPods and iPad, this started a new era in the field of portable computers.

Turning the idea of Wozniak into a vision of a "computer for the rest of us" he built Apple computers smaller and affordable, later Jobs tried to make computer more portable and iPad and iPhone were born.

It was the efforts of Steve Jobs which made a company started in a garage as one of the biggest companies in the world.

With what idea Steve Wozniak just tried to show off, Steve Jobs changed the world with it.

Steve Jobs leaded and motivated people working at apple to innovate and the result is in front of us.

2) How do you account for the success of Apple products, particularly the iPod, iPhones, and iPad? The early Macintosh?

Most of the products launched by Apple were new to the world and they were huge success, the iEcosystem which includes iPod, iPad and iPhone ruled its category.

iPod emerged as MP3 Player killer, it removed the market of MP3 player from the US. iPod offering better quality, design and storage space than its competitions in the market became the one and only product to listen and carry music.

iPhone since its launch dominated the smartphone market and its success can be accounted from the fact that companies like Xiaomi of China became a big brand which started from walking on the path lead by Apple. iPhone became a necessity and everybody wanted to have one, even its launch events created so much buzz in the market.

iPad was launched as a tablet computer or a portable computer which did most of the jobs a computer would do and it was small, lightweight and portable. Made for creative people, gamers and students who would like to have a computer which is 20 per cent of its weight and yes this product also did its job and became a success.

Being the first mover in its market, Apple created the grounds on which other players played later.

The early Macintosh was not a very big success in the market since Apple was a new company and the market for Macintosh was new and small, Apple had to create the need for Macintosh in the market and slowly people started purchasing it. The early Macintosh featured GUI and built in screen and was expensive, this was also a reason that it was not so much of a success.

The thought of staying at least two years ahead of its competitors have made Apple a giant in the market and the success stories of its products are case studies.

3) Do you believe Tim Cook, the new CEO of Apple can carry on the legacy of Jobs?

Tim Cook was largely unknown to the public since 2009 when he temporarily took the position of Jobs due to his illness later when Steve Jobs resigned in 2011 Tim Cook took the position of CEO of Apple Inc., before joining Apple in 1998, he has worked with IBM, Intelligence Electronics and Compaq.

Timothy Donald Cook is not new in this field, he has worked with giants like IBM and he is associated with Apple with 1998 which provides him the insights of how this organization is being run, the culture of it, his acceptability at Apple and he was given the position when Steve Jobs was alive.

Many people thought that Apple won't survive without Jobs but Cook has proved them all wrong, the company is doing perfectly fine, its introducing new gadgets like it used to. Jobs tens to build the products vertically, while Cook has often expanded the product line horizontally i.e. adding more products in the line to choose from.

At the time when Jobs left Apple the valuation of the company was roughly $350 Billion and today its worth is over $900 Billion.

I believe Tim Cook is doing perfectly fine as the CEO of Apple Inc. and the legacy what Steve Jobs left behind him is in right hands.

4) What unique personality traits did Steve Jobs display? How did that influence his approach to innovation?

Steve Jobs displayed the following traits:

The traits which Jobs possessed leaded him to innovate and build products which people have not even thought of, he was a leader and believed that it’s his responsibility to take apple forward. By not being afraid of failure promoted innovativeness and with vision of building computers small, affordable and within the reach of people he made Apple a company known for its innovative products.
