Domestic violence is one that is not visible at the outset but its effects will be seen on the person affected.
I have a friend whose father is a drunkard. He drinks almost everyday whether he works or not. He comes home drunk and start arguing with my friend's mother. My friend and his sister used to hide in another room as they know what would happen next. At times, my friend's mother wouldn't reply but his father would force his mother to speak and make her part of the argument.
His father will hit her mother and tell at her until she goes out and stay until his father has slept. My friend and his sister wouldn't come out till his father goes out the next day.
It's not just about the physical violence but also about the psychological impact which domestic violence causes in all the victim. My friend and his sister's self esteem is really low even today. They are afraid of strangers and not confident when they do their tasks.
Most of the domestic violence are not reported because people are afraid of spoiling the family reputation. Besides, people will have a soft corner for the ones who abuse them as they are their close relatives.
Most of the domestic violence occur because of substance abuse too. It makes people uncontrollable and irrational.
