Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be called as a ‘talking therapy’ that can help one to manage their problems by changing the way they think and behave. Talking and changing one’s behavior can change how they think (cognitive) and what they do (behavior). So, basically in CBT, cognitions are targeted and the behaviors get changed. Though this therapy is used vehemently, yet it is not suitable for certain clients like- schizophrenics and other psychotic individuals. Research has shown cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can be as effective as medicine in treating depression and other mental health problems. However, for CBT to be successful, a committed approach is required, and it may not be suitable for everyone. Some advantages and disadvantages of CBT are listed below-
