Explanation / Answer

CBT or cognitive behavioural therapy

This is one of the intervention processes, where evidence based practice is implemented. This is one of the most widely used approaches. The main focus of CBT is development of personal approachesas well as personal strategies that would help a person cope up. These are also referrred to as client specific interventions. These can only be developed when the therapist would identify the thoughts, beliefs as well as attitudes that prevail in the life of the patient, either by interacting with their family or by listening intently.

CBT is not culture bound and is not specific to a particular ethnicity, it is just a behavioural therapy and has no relation with how a particular culture affects it. What the therapist has to do is to focus on the problems along with develop interventions that are action oriented, such that thespecific disorder that s patient has, could be treated. The therapist has to be assisting the clients in the practice of effective strategies that would reduce the symptoms of his disorder.

The therapist has to carry out identification of critical behaviours along with determination of the deficits or the excess of these behaviour with an evaluations of the duration or frequency with which these behaviours take place. This is followed by bringing down the intensity of behaviours or increasing the intensity, in case there is excess or deficit of behaviour resp.

Hence, CBT is universally accepted with the therapist decisions wnfdesigning methods on a client cen-tered basis.
