During the Fall of 2016, a series of articles were published debating the idea that we are living in a "post-truth" or "post-fact" world. Please read the articles below (they're varying lengths, but none are terribly long) and choose three of the following questions to answer.

-What does 'post-truth' or 'post-factual' mean to these authors?

-What are some of the ways that truth or fact is determined, according to these articles?

-Do you believe we are living in a world in which there is no truth? Why or why not?

-How do you, personally, define truth?

Explanation / Answer

According to the New York times article:

There is quite a simple and easy definition of post fact and/or post truth, which is there is a presence of sundry facts, we all can count on that, but the credibility behind those 'apparent' facts is as good as negligible. When there is a so called fact regarding a certain thing or phenomena there is one fact, but if there are many facts, that too all pointing in different directions, we know we are in the post truth world.

Truth or acts according to this article is established by lobbyists. Plain and simple. These lobbyists are hired by all those who have the monetary means to gain their backing, and make them custom tailor facts right around the given text that is preferred.

According to the rolling Stone article:

Post fact/Truth is anything that comes out of Donald Trumps mouth. Simple crisp, and quite direct an article.

According to this article the truth is stumbled upon by the act of newsjerking and the wavering of money, power and the good old threats.

To answer the last two sub parts of the questions:

I, for one, do believe that we are veritably in the age of a post truth world, I have seen manifold facts and theories that don't take the same direction not only in politics but also in realm of sciences. It is a rat race, and the one who tailors more facts wins the race. I can imagine George Orwell sitting with a knowing smile.

I personally would define truth as the one that is definitely apolitical, and has no agenda only then we will edge closer to the truth.
