Explanation / Answer

All the world is a stage and we are all actors in it. Almost everyone in this world has different roles to play such as grandfather/grandmother, father/mother, son/daughter etc. but these are roles required by the society and nature. For example, a grandfather treats and behaves with his son and grandson differently. A strict policeman is an affectionate father. So, these are part and parcel of our physical environment.

There are others outside our family environment with whom we wear masks, in the form of behaving differently. Here we change our character entirely to suit the person in the opposite. In the first scenario, it’s very natural for us to behave that way but in the second scenario outside our homes, we do it in order to please others, so that we can get things done.

I had worn many masks because I wanted to please people in order to win them. When I sit in the classroom, I act as if I’m very disciplined and seriously listening but in reality I was not. I did that in order to please the teachers, so that, they won’t fail me. I didn’t like to do whatever my friends did, especially bunking classes and going out, hanging around at nights but I did that in order to be with them.

DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), which is otherwise called Multiple Personality Disorder where people behave differently in different places. It’s like carrying many people in one body. People with multiple personality disorder will have two or more extreme kinds of thought patterns one supporting something and the other opposing. So this incongruence causes them lots of trouble. This is involuntary whereas when people behave differently with different people is voluntary.
