Week 2 Discussion Topic Day Care and Attachment - What Do You Think??? A few research studies have suggested that when an infant spends more than 20 hours a week in day care, the child is at risk of becoming insecurely attached. Yet we know that for infants whose parent(s) work they are often in daycare more than 40 hours a week. So if there is truth in this research then many of our children are at risk for developing attachment problems. Do you agree with the implication of these studies? Support your point either way with the text or another scholarly source. What benefits do you believe can come from a child being enrolled in a good day care facility? It is a fact that many children are enrolled in day care due to mothers working.Day care helps children to socialize,understand the art of sharing and giving.Parents feel safe leaving a child in daycare instead of hiring a nanny and leaving tha child alone at home.This also gives an opportunity for mothers to meet other mothers and exchange ideas .Most of the staff are trained to handle children in case of emergencies.
The negatives would be if a day care would not fully eqipped for the development of the child.Some day cares take on too many children with little staff .Cleanliness is the most important.Hygiene should be maintained at all times when handling children.
When choosing a day care one should keep in mind is a licensed daycare,safety of children,well trained staff in early childhood education,adequate staff for children enrolled,emergency preparedness,should include all activities such as games,creativity,gross and motor skills.
