3. You men's tennis coach is an Orthodox Jew and cannot use public transportation on Friday evenings or Saturdays until sundown. The men's team is schedule to compete in Orlando Saturday, January 27, 2018. The team is scheduled to leave Friday December 8th at Noon. The men's tennis coach has requested to have his assistant coach travel with and coach the team for this match so that he won't have to travel from sundown Friday through sunset Saturday. a. What type of accommodation is being requested? [1 points] b. Do you grant the requested accommodation? [1 points] ° c. why or why not? [5 points]Explanation / Answer
a) This is religious accomodation which entails good-faith efforts of employers, emlployees and applicants and must meet both the religious beliefs, practices and the observances of the employee and the employer's job requirements or the selection process.
b) This type of accomodation may or may not be granted.depending on the importance of presence of head coach in the match, if the match is really imortant and coach needs to be there I would request him to travel on other day and not grant the request but if the match can be skipped by head coach and taken care by assistant coach, I would grant such accomodation
c) According to US department of labor, reasonable accomodation is Any adjustment to the wok environment that will allow any employee or applicant to practice his or her religion. The need for such accomodation may arise when an individual's religious beliefs, obervances or practices conflict with a specific task or requirement of the position or an application process, accomodating requests often relte to work schedules, dress and grooming. If it does not pose an undue hardship, the emlpoyer must grant the accomodation.
So in this case the hardship depends of the criticality of the match and that will be the deciding fcator whether accomodation can be granted or not.
