this is the question.

Imagine that a new at-home test kit has just arrived at a local pharmacy near you. This kit allows you to test yourself for Alzheimer's Disease and is just as easy to administer as an at-home pregnancy test. Currently no such test exists, but if it did, would you want to test yourself? your parents? What would be the benefits or disadvantages of knowing or not knowing? How do you think you might live life differently knowing that you might -- one day -- have Alzheimer's Disease?

Well this is actually something l've been interested in more and more lately, Ive been looking to do a DNA test and from what I have found there are two diferent types of tests, one to work back your ancestry and another to look at your DNA to see what your susceptible to as a result of your genetic makeup My primary reason for looking into these is that I have a key part of myself that I have no knowledge of, my biological father is not and was not around So l have a variety of questions regarding my roots and as well what genetic traits I have that may put me more at risk for certain things Personally I went around in circles about if I wanted to look into this and I think I have come to the conclusion that it's only smart to do such. All of this is on an opposite end of the spectrum as i relates to Alzheimer's disease but say my Genetic makeup shows that I may be at a higher risk of heart disease, well then obviously I would focus more attention to my heart health (might be one I should pay attention to anyway), or maybe I will be at a higher risk of kidney disease I can then attempt to avert that by means of proactive interventions. None of this however really represents a precise yes or no as to whether you will have one of these issues or Hot So as it relates to the hypothetical test regarding alzheimers disease, no I dont think I would get this testing. The reason being that as opposed to the diseases mentioned above, there really is no cure for alzheimer's and to the extent of my knowledge there is still much to be learned about the causes of t. So even if I knew then there would be nothing I could do about it, and so in turn it would be shadow looming over everyday as I wait for the day to come where I start to show and feel these symptoms However I think that if there was also a cure/treatment or even some causes of the disease that were known then I might actually do this test. If there is a chance to catch something early or avoid it altogether then it's a completely different hypothetical. No sense in worrying about something I can do nothing about but if I can at least try to change the outcome then without a doubt worth the fear that may be instilled by knowing that I may in fact still sufer from the disease.

Explanation / Answer

If there was an Alzheimer's test kit, I would definitely give it a try if I felt like I was prone to it. Just like a pregnancy test kit, if found positive I would further get a conformation from a clinical practitioner as test kits are not fully reliable. The benefits of knowing would help prepare with pre treatment and lifestyle changes. on the other hand, knowing can cause stress and affect our mind and behavior to a certain extent.

If I knew before hand that I would be diagnosed with Alzheimer, I would set my priorities or maybe even change my priorities. I would make sure I live life more the way I want to and show more affection and spend more time with the people I love.
