Question

Can Anyone help me with these reactions list in each part 1 investigatoin to 6 investigation as soon as possible?

For each part, list the reactions in increasing rate.

For example, for part 2:

Mg + HCl < Cu + HCl < Zn + HCl (Zn being the fastest reaction)

Note: Mg < Cu < Zn is not complete

Investigation 1 – Nature of reactants 1

Obtain 5 test tubes and number them #1 to #5. For each, place 1-cm strip of Mg.

Add 1mL of 2M sulfuric acid to #1.

Add 1mL of 2M hydrochloric acid to #2.

Add 1mL of 2M nitric acid to #3.

Add 1mL of 2M phosphoric acid to #4.

Add 1mL of 2M acetic acid to #5.

Investigation 2 – Nature of reactants 2

Obtain 3 test tubes and place 1mL of 6.0M HCl in each.

Add a 1cm polished strip of Mg to the first.

Add a 1 cm polished strip of Zn to the second.

Add a 1 cm polished strip of Cu to the third.

Investigation 3 – Concentration of reactants

Obtain 3 test tubes and number them #1 to #3. For each, place on 1-cm strip of Mg.

Add 1mL of 1M sulfuric acid to #1.

Add 1mL of 3M sulfuric acid to #2.

Add and 1mL of 6M sulfuric acid to #3.

Investigation 4 – Surface Area

Obtain 2 test tubes.

Place one marble chip (CaCO3) into one test tube and about same amount of crushed marble chips into the other test tube.

Add 1mL of 6.0M HCl to each test tube.

Investigation 5 – Temperature

Obtain 3 test tubes and add 1mL of 6.0M HCl to all three.

Place one test tube in an ice bath, the second in a warm water bath, and the third in a tap water.

All each to reach the desired temperature (approximately 10-15 minutes).

To each test tube, add a piece of Zn.

Investigation 6 – Catalyst

Obtain 2 test tubes and add 1mL of 3% H2O2 to both.

Add few grains of MnO2 to one of the test tubes.

Explanation / Answer

Investigation 1: Stronger acid will recat vigorously. In this case sulphuric acid.

Investigation 2: It depends on reactivity of metal , from data given Zn is more reactive.

Investigation 3: As concentration increases speed of reaction also increases, so 6M sulphuric acid reacts vigorously.

Investigation 4: More area faster will be reaction so in case of crushed marble speed of raction will be faster.

Investigation 5: Temperature increases speed of reaction increases so in warm water bath speed of reaction will be greater.

Investigation 6: MnO2 is positive catalyst that increases speed of reaction, so in that test tube reaction completes first & vigorously.
