Explain why she cannot say that from the results of her study? How can her results be stated accurately?

Explanation / Answer

Music has been appearing in different ways and is known to have vivid impact on peoplw’s lives. Music is observed at every place, and this ranges from marriages to funerals. Also, there are differences in the genres of music that occur across platforms. In the world that we live today, patriarchy as well as feminism have become the words known very well. Patriarchy is better known that feminism today, with the belief that it exists in every part of the society. The critics of music believe, as important is the tune and tone of the music, so are the lyrics important. It is the lyrics of a song, that make people believe that a particular type of music is se-xist and makes people behave in such manners.

Today, the concentration of se-xism and music concentrate on genres such as hip hop, rap music as well as R&B music. These genres have been put under scrutiny where there is complete focus on the color of the artists, though, the genres that have been dominated by white artists have often been ignored. Rap music is included in hip hop music. In rap , music, artists are known to talk in a lyrical manner and not sing on a particular tune. The lyrics that were in rap music, were particularly se-xist, with lyrics including portraying women in traditional roles of gender, along with portraying women as objects, which was most commonly observed. Also, in many of the lyrics, women had been portrayed as stereotypes.

Claire conducted an ex post facto study comparing attitudes of a group of rap music fans and a group of classical music buffs. She found that the rap fans had more sexist attitudes about women than the other group did. She claimed that rap music causes people to become se-xist. Though rap music had more se-sister lyrics than the other genre, it would not necessarily mean that people become se-xist listening to these songs. There is no evidence for that. There is a huge chance, that because of the se-xist mentality, people tend to select such music because of the already present se-xism they have. Such people are more in acceptance with the women objectification and acceptance of the myth of rape.

Her results could be stated more accurately in stating that listeners of rap music are more in acceptance with the se-xism portrayed in rap music.
