For this assignment, you will be watching a video and answering questions about the video. The video shows a recreation of the "Smoke in the Room" experiment, in which people waited in a smoke-filled room until they would have been in serious trouble if there had actually been a fire.

Explanation / Answer

(a) The experiment investigated the effect of social conformity when people are put into a dangerous situation. The results clearly shows that people tend to resist back from acting differently in a group even when a need for it arises. On the other hand, people in general have a tendency to align their actions and behaviors with those around them.

(b) The study is a clear demonstration for conformity. Thoughout the experiment, the person looks for the behavior and response of others around them, so as to respond accordingly.

(c) The conformity is based on informational social influence. The behavior of the person who is being observed tend to result from imitating others behavior.
