Question

Review this quotation from Takash (2008): “If you’ve got talent and can make an impact, your contribution will be recognized and valued. So don’t fall into the trap of acting inferior to others just because you have fewer years under your belt or are making less money.” (p. 2) Do you agree with Takash’s belief – that your talent and ability to make an impact are the most important factors in being recognized and valued in an organization? Why or why not? New professionals can, sometimes, be too eager to be recognized and valued when they don’t yet have a track record. If you were new to an organization and felt your boss wasn’t recognizing your ability or efforts, how might you respond to this type of behavior in light of these two scripture passages? “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven” Matthew 6:1 (NIV). “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” Colossians 3:23–24 (NIV). Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

Explanation / Answer

Employees leaving an organisation might be replaced physically; however, their skill-sets and knowledge cannot be exactly replaced by the person replacing them, as each individual possesses a different skill-set and experience. It is well known by the business decision-makers that the skill of employees, account for 85% of a company’s assets. Employee efficiency and talent determines the pace and growth of the organizations. The employees (their knowledge, expertise, abilities, skill-sets, and experience) are the invaluable and intangible assets in securing the future. I think being a new employee and having the talent and the potential doesnt mean that you know it all, even an experienced employee wont be knowing everything.Having talent and potential is definitely important than experience but only if one has a learner's attitude.Showcasing your talent and skills to the boss is one thing but not refining them is another.Being overconfident wont work,to be able to be more efficient one needs to be open to learning new knowldege and skills and have the right knid of motivation to adapt to the organization's needs. Being self righteous wont work, the zeal and humility will work. Though people with past experiences will display more knowledge but evaluating potential in new employees is much more effective.New employees having high potentials show deep personal humility and invest in getting better at everything they do.They definitely show more curiosity, determination, insight and engagement than employees with years of experience.Sometimes people with experience appear perfect with everything right from knowledge to expertise but lack motivation and zeal.Businesses may focus on hiring someone with eight to 10 years of experience but sometimes that’s really “one year’s experience times eight.”Companies that don’t recognize employee potential can lose out.
