9-1.The purpose of performance appraisal is as follows:

- It evaluates the performance of the employee in comparison to the standard set for him. Proper details are taken on what the employee has done to achieve certain goals. Records are maintained on what is the performance level of the employee and what are his achivements.

- It provides a feedback to the employer on the performance given by every employee and the achivement made by him in justification to the salary he is paid. It is also important for the employee to know how his work is evaluated and what he needs todo for improvement.

- It is a means to measure the performance of the employee accurately which helps in increasing overall growth and productivity by making improvements on performance level by comparing to the standards and taking measures to replace employees who show total incapability.

- it helps in determining the weakness of eacg employee clearly which helps in taking corrective measures for improvement.
