How did the environment/culture surrounding the buyer (Russian company) impact the choices available for risk responses? Considering the risks and the responses made by the buyer, would you have made the same choices? If not, what choices would you have made? Explain and defend your choices.
Explanation / Answer
As Salmonella is a harmful micro-organism,causing a severe disease Salmonellosis in humans and it has been noticed the presence of Salmonella in the frozen chicken in various parts of Russia. There was much of unrest amongst the customers as consuming such chicken is harmful for their health. As Russia is a country where people are highly conscious of the food they consume and the political norms in terms of food regulations are much stringent. So it poses much risk to the company for carrying out its operations.
The choices available for risk responses are that the people should stop consuming frozen chicken or the government should ban the sales of frozen chicken in Russia. It is again a tough decision as Russian people are fond of chicken and putting a ban would reduce the supply of chicken.
I would have directed my staff to be careful in terms of food regulations and strict quality considerations to be implemented so that the chicken would be free of harmful Salmonella.
