Question
Concerning genetics and environment... Do you feel one factor, genetics or environment, might impact a person more strongly at certain ages? For example, if an infant is at home with only his mother all day for the first year of life, will his acquisition of language, motor skills, etc. be different from a child who spends his first year in daycare with several children of varied ages? What if the two children in this example were 6 years old? Concerning genetics and environment... Do you feel one factor, genetics or environment, might impact a person more strongly at certain ages? What if the two children in this example were 6 years old?Explanation / Answer
The genetic and environmental factors play an equally important role in development of any child. For eg. Two identical twins even if raised in different environments may share some same temparemental factors. The factors like genetic as and environment play an important role when the child starts understanding, she starts reasoning. Here the child is one year old, she needs attention and care, love etc. If the mother talks sufficient with the child then language skills may not be different. These skills differ when child starts speaking.
Hence genetic like factor would play an important role at the age of 6. If the twins are gifted with good music skills, it would be displayed. The language acquisition skill would again depend upon the environment, the one at the day care may be able to display more fine language and motor skills compared to one who is at home. As the child the one in day care would get more exposure to many activities compared to one at home. There would again be many activities and competition in day care fostering all these skills.
