Question
Read and reflect on Matthew 7:1–5,
Consider the “scariest” Bible verse about being a leader. Matthew 18:6–7 (MSG) says:
But if you give them a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you’ll soon wish you hadn’t. You’d be better off dropped in the middle of the lake with a millstone around your neck. Doom to the world for giving these God-believing children a hard time! Hard times are inevitable, but you don’t have to make it worse – and it’s doomsday to you if you do.
Based on all of the passages or scripture in the Introduction and Background Information sections on this page, how do you prepare yourself to sit down with this employee?
Do the passages or scripture give any direction about what to do during and/or after the evaluation?
How does living out the Christian faith in our day-to-day lives contribute to understanding the theory and practice of leadership?
Explanation / Answer
The passage of Holy Book, suggest us that, the evaluation must be based on ethical conditions and we should not go to criticize anyone for personal responses. The evaluation is important if we use it help others, if we evaluate a person to form superiority against employees, we can miss the ethics.
The symbol of doomsday is a conditional statement which suggests possibilities if we miss real cause of evaluation, we can be identified as trust less person, rather than a manager or evaluator.
The second thing I felt in the passage, that the Christian faith is ethical suggestions not threat, we can use them as a moral responsibility rather than threat or trouble in work. A good evaluation never criticizes anyone but it helps a person to improve capabilities and productivity. Our intention towards our job describes our morality and trust, so that passage is an ethical suggestion which is very helpful to create a good and effective evaluation process.
A good leadership ensures moral values as well as efficiency to create good working atmosphere rather than a threat to anyone.
