Question
elcome to Discussion 2.1! This week we’ll investigate America’s first serial killer. H.H. Holmes. Holmes purchased a hotel (known as the “Murder Castle”) with the intention of using it as a stage for his escapades. His victims were mainly female and were often his employees. He created elaborate rooms and devices to kill his victims (gas lines into hotel rooms, locking vaults etc). Eventually, Holmes was apprehended. He admitted to twenty seven murders although the numbers are suspected to be much higher. This week, we’ll look into the different types of serial killers. Address the following prompts: • Last week, we define what a serial killer is. How does H.H. Holmes fit this definition? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._H._Holmes) • Holmes committed his crimes in the late 1800’s yet is the first recorded serial killer. Do you believe serial killers existed prior to this –or- do you feel it was a new phenomenon? • How do we define “insanity”? Is this accepted as a legal defense? • Did Holmes act alone or as part of a team?
Explanation / Answer
I believe that serial killers did existed before. But they did not come under insanity, it was just mere killing and if caught there were being punished. I would take the example if India, at the time when Mughals ruled India, it was before 1800. These were inhuman, insane and insensitive towards Indians. They looted so much of wealth, harrassed children and women.
During those times serial killer existed, who killed person one after the another.
This insanity can come under some personality disorder vlije split personality disorder as the person is not aware of what he or she is doing. This is accepted as legal defence as per ranker. But one must prove that while creating a murder the killer was not knowing what he or she is doing.
Holmes worked all alone
