Question
Aaron wants to know if educational attainment is related to personality factors and/or genetic factors. She surveyed 1000 individuals, and asked them to indicate the highest degree that they earned, then she gave them a personality test, and she also collected blood samples to run DNA analyses. She will examine relationships among these three variables. indicate whether the approach is experimental (causal) or non-experimental (association).
indicate whether the approach is experimental (causal) or non-experimental (association).
Explanation / Answer
The approach used by Aaron is a non-experimental (association), as the study is about the non causal correlation between the educational attainment with personality factors and/or genetic factors. Also, this study did not had the manipulation of the variables to establish the causal relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. In the first step the sample was surveyed to measure the level of education, then they were subjected to personality tests to find out their personality traits, and the blood samples obtained from them was subjected to DNA analysis. Thus, the educational level of the sample was associated with the personality traits, and genetic traits to examine the correlation between these three variables.
