The initial meeting with a client is very important. What are three things you would want to know about a client at the end of the first session together. Why?Explanation / Answer
The first counseling session is the most crucial of all. It is a make or break for the client. It is important that the therapist makes efforts to connect with the client in the first session. If the level of comfort is established in the first session, it gives the therapist the leverage to learn more and more about the client. However, the three things that a therapist may want to know about the client at the end of the first session are family background, emotional status and an insight to the actual concern of a particular issue.
It is important for the therapist to know where the client comes from. Family background gives away a lot about a person, his upbringing, childhood experiences and etcetera. Emotional status is important to understand to take further sessions. Lastly, by the end of first session the therapist must understand the real reason why the client is at the therapist.
