Balcony Perspective is a metaphor used to understand the group dynamics (in this case) by getting outside of the situation and observing everything that happens in the group. Any group activity goes through forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning model. From the outsider perspective, understanding the patterns of behavior is important. According to Heifetz et al., 2009, considering from the balcony perspective gives us the ability to act as well as reflect. It is observed, some people in the group will try to take leaders' position, some will follow, some will question on the activities, some will doubt, some will be supportive, some will be argumentative, some will be interactive and some will be silent, some thinks about the purpose of the group and others don't. With all these, a leader takes ahead the group towards the goal with the support of others. In the beginning, there is a leadership, and teamwork crisis. Team members are not aware of all the previously mentioned questions and answers. Then slowly with the consent of all, work progresses and a leader is ascertained, a sense of belongingness enhances and they think in a productive manner. The leader creates the informal authority in the group and after the creation of the group cohesiveness, everyone thinks alike i.e. towards the accomplishment of the goal. The norms created for the group automatically enables all the team members to remove conflicts, fosters a growth environment and divides the workload among all. The various group dynamics roles are leadership roles or facilitator roles, coordinator roles, investigator roles, expertise roles, evaluator roles, problem solver roles, and team worker roles. As a facilitator or leader, you make things happen, enabling members to work together either with the autocratic style, or democratic or participative style or laissez-faire style. Motivating team members, providing direction, enhancing group cohesiveness, solving problems, building trust among team members and proceeding the work in a constructive manner are some of the responsibilities of the leader. The other roles which play a vital role in the group include supporting others, strong communication, gathering information, thinking critically, providing knowledge, the delegation of tasks, providing equal opportunities to everyone, organizing activities being practical, embracing changes, etc.
