Explanation / Answer

An act would be considered as an abnormal behavior if it violates the norms of the society or the majority. If the society finds something which doesn’t fall under its norms, it might label a behavior as abnormal. If a behavior is deviant and doesn’t conform to the law of the land it would be considered as deviant. If one is not able to grow normally and struggles hard with the developmental process, it would be considered as abnormal. For example, if a 20 year old man exhibits the behaviors of a 10 year old boy, it would be considered as abnormal. If one is affected by disease or physical injury and act inadequately, it would also be considered as abnormal.

Although all these elements are needed to define abnormal behaviors, they also have some limitations. The first definition following social norms is not static but dynamic. Because the society is constantly evolving and what was considered as abnormal behaviors have become normal. Physical illness is tend to happen but they may not fit in the abnormal behavior, rather they might be the effects of the physical and mental illness which is not in their control.
