What is changed do you believe that rap and hip hop are still sending messages regarding social issues in the United States as it did when it first began . Discuss the urban plight of young African Americans . What is changedExplanation / Answer
When hip-hop and rap emerged during 1970s, it emerged as the expression of African Americans in the after years of the Civil Rights movement. They conveyed the anger and distress of discrimination and this united African American youths across the nation giving them hope and pride in their culture, and it made the world know about their situations. But, the quality of expression has been degraded due to the selfish financial interests of the music market during these years. Now, instead of focusing on the social issues, they are sending out the negative messages in the form of vulgar and cheap lyrics. These cheapness gains instant attention and numbers hits the charts. The negative impact is that the Afro-American youths are negatively perceived as agressive, violent, vulgar and law breakers. Thus, hip hop and rap in purest form would have focused on the real social issues, empowerment of African Americans, creativity, culture, unity, and hope, but instead it is giving out negative message about the plight of this community just for financial gain.
