Question

How would you respond to the following:

I feel that the mind and the brain are two different things, however, they are still connected. The brain is the powerhouse of the body and controls the entire thing. While the brain does have the power to control emotions and thought, I feel like our mind is a part of our body that we cannot see or measure. The mind is the way we think and our feelings, not just a huge muscle that controls an entire life form. Our mind is a part of our personality and it is shaped by the events in our lives. When we talk about someone's mind we think about their intelligence, their emotions, and who they are as a person. When we talk about a brain we think of it being a body part, but the mind is not a body part. When something tragic happens it affects our mind and how we perceive things, which ultimately leads back to the brain, but can we say that the brain is the cause of our mental pain or would that be the mind? When someone is emotionally abused does it affect their brain or their mind? I would always think to say the mind. I am trying not to repeat myself here, but what I am trying to say is that while the brain does have control and is the reason for emotions, the mind is what is affected by the outside world. The mind is very fragile and can be easily manipulated, while the brain is just a huge muscle controlling our body.

Explanation / Answer

Answer- The brain and mind are the terms used interchangeably but they are not the same. The brain is considered as an organ that controls all human functions. It observes the outside world and responds it to internally. Candace Pert described the mind as the binding status of neuropeptides with receptors on the surface of cells, subsequent intracellular processes, the dispatch of informational nature and nurture. Mind and brain are different from each other still they are connected. It is considered as an activity of the brain which is invisible. It is a part of the brain. The mind represents the intelligence and emotions of a person. A person's thoughts, feelings, perceptions, memories and beliefs are presented through mind. Brain is a body part that controls all functions of the body while the mind observes and monitors the flow of energy and information to modify them.
