When we are making a claim, we must support that position with sufficient evidence. We can find that evidence in journals, articles, experiments, experiences, and more. What is the reason for having sufficient evidence? You want to sway the reader to see the topic from your point of view. In order to do this, you must have convincing, reliable, and credible evidence. Why should your evidence be convincing, reliable, and credible? What might happen if your evidence does not come across as reliable or credible? Why would this matter to your audience?

When a researcher conducts a research,he obviously wants that his research is convincing enough to reach a large audience.And to make it convincing,he needs sources and evidences which are credible and reliable.Credibility of the evidence,makes the research credible as well. Audience will only focus their attention and read a research,only if its sources are credible enough.Credibility is defined as "the quality or power of inspiring belief". Credible sources, therefore, must be reliable sources that provide information that one can believe to be true. It is important to use credible sources in an academic research paper because your audience will expect you to have backed up your assertions with credible evidence. Think of it this way: if you went to the doctor to get advice on a symptom you were having, and your doctor told you his diagnosis was based on something he heard a random stranger say on his way to work, would you be inclined to trust what he told you your symptom meant? Probably not. But, if your doctor told you his diagnosis came from an article he read in the peer-reviewed, highly prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association, you would be more likely to believe his diagnosis was correct. Why? The reason is that you may have heard of the journal your doctor referred to, or you may know that the AMA is a highly respected organization in the field of medicine, ergo, they know that their information is credible and reliable. The same situation holds true if a researcher is writing a research paper. His audience is going to expect him to use the best, most correct, most recent, and most reliable information possible so that they can trust in his expertise. Using evidence that does not come from a credible source of information will not convince his reader that his claim is plausible or even correct. If the researcher doesnt uses credible and reliable sources,the research would never have the necessary weightage and truth to convinve the audience.The audience will never believe the researcher and discard his research,if they see he is not telling the truth in his research and his claims or arguments dont have any basis of support.
