Explanation / Answer

Media is the conscience of a democracy. The freedom of speech brought more individuals writing about the way society and government functioned. They also wrote their expectations on the society and the governments thus making them more aware that someone’s watching. Media remained a bridge between the government and the society. Media questions all the new plans the government introduces, analyses its hidden agenda, its connection with the big shots in the business, exposing corrupt officials and politicians etc.

Today, media takes sides with the political parties and when their favorites get to power they keep supporting while the rest criticize them thus confusing people of what’s real and what’s not. So, the authenticity of news is becoming more questionable. Media today decides what news should go out and what shouldn’t thus favoring news that would benefit them and satisfy people in power. It would continue to be more business oriented in the future but with all the limitations, media still holds an adversary relationship with the government and bridges the gap between the government and the public, especially in a democracy.
