Question

Human Development Kohlberg created a theory of moral development in which he evaluated individuals' responses to moral dilemmas. The most well known dilemma is the Heinz dilemma. Imagine you are a participant in Kohlberg's study. Please respond to the following 1. Read the Heinz dilemma: In Europe, a woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. The drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging $2,000, ten times more than what the drug cost him to make. The sick woman's husband, Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money, but he could only get together half of the money. He told the druggist that his wife was dying and asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said no. Should Heinz steal the drug? Why or why not? (Your response should be approximately 50-75 words in length) 1. Using what you've read in the textbook, what level of reasoning (preconventional, conventional, or postconventional) does your response fall under? Why? (Your response should be approximately 50-75 words in length)

Explanation / Answer

One of the most important thing in this world would be save a life. That’s why we have organ donation campaigns everywhere. Heinz was trying to save a life and it was his wife’s besides the drug dealer was selling it for a huge profit. The intention of the drug dealer was only profit and not saving lives. So, Heinz was right in stealing the drug otherwise a life will be lost.

Heinz act fits the 3rd level which is post conventional morality where the dilemma between social contract and individual rights emerge. Although laws, rules and regulations are created for the greater good of many people, at times, they may work against individuals. Rules are for men and not men are for rules, so in order to save a life, it’s ok to break the rule because a life is worth more than a rule created by men.
