Explanation / Answer

From experiences, the kind of questions which turn out to be helpful are:

1) Essential questions: These are generally asked by people who care. Such questions make one find inner happiness and meanings to life.

2) Hypothetical questions: These questions are asked during classroom interactions by teachers and they help students think beyond books.

3) Planning and Organizing questions: These questions are asked when an event needs to be planned ( for eg., at school) and brainstorming is required.

4) Probing and Clarification questions: If the person asking the questions knows how to probe then it is a good way of dealing with personal issues. Generally parents probing has a cathartic effect on the child when young.

5) Divergent questions: Such questions are sometimes asked during group discussions and if conducted well, leads to learning.

Some questions which are not helpful are:

1) Unanswerable and Provocative questions: Trying to take a deep dive into ones existence, these questions can make people more confused about themselves and lose out on their inner peace.

2) Irrelevant questions: These questions make people divert from the topic of discussion and may not result in any fruitful conversation.
