Question
Discuss situations where digestion and reproduction may be antagonistic processes. An animal that feeds on a large meal undergoes numerous changes that affect its other physiological systems. Discuss how the digestive process impinges on other systems. When wild animals are domesticated, the years of artificial selection can alter the digestive physiology of the animal. Choose an example of a domesticated animal and consider how its digestive physiology might differ from that of its wild ancestors, given the differences in diet and selective pressures. Why is digestion a metabolically expensive process?Explanation / Answer
1. The main reason of our body’s system is to become antagonist that they cannot forcefully repel excess use or abuse of these systems. Our brain only suggests for use and misuse of systems. Digestive system may become antagonist if an organism eats foods but it already has eaten adequately. The process become antagonist, it may digest or repel out the food. Digestion will cause more calories for the body that will increase fat deposition in the body and repelling of food will loss energy. The reproductive system can antagonist if a female is weak, or already pregnant.
2. Digestive system is one of the largest systems of animals. During the whole process of digestion, body full focuses on the success of the system. It affects form the ingestion to the excretion of food. As digestion requires high rate of blood circulation therefore, other organs and system gets less oxygen during the digestion. That is why organisms rest after having meals. Immune system also gets more active after having the meal because meals contain foreign organisms. Brain or nervous system also functions slower because of lesser oxygen supplies to them.
3. The best example is dog, the wild dogs are more carnivores than domestic dogs. Our dogs can have bread, and plants made food as meals because they can digest these foods. However, wild dogs cannot because of their carnivores’ nature.
4. During digestion, lot of energy requires. Every part of digestive system gets hyperactive during their process. Stomach bowl movement requires lot of energy because it continues for 30 to 45 minutes. After that absorption and excretion requires more energy. That is why it is an expensive process.
